Loktak Floating Elementary School, Langolsabi

The Loktak Floating Elementary School is situated in the middle of Loktak Lake – the largest fresh water lake in the North Eastern region of India. The school was launched to provide basic education to the children of fishing households living on floating huts, who were deprived of any schools after a massive eviction drive in 2011-12. Local teachers were engaged to teach at the school, they also started providing adult education afterwards. The school or the households didn’t have access to electricity, nor was there any means to get it in the future.

The solar powered digital education project was designed & implemented, with the technical assistance of SELCO Foundation and financial support of Tata Trusts, with an aim to help the teachers with interesting audio-visual teaching aids/contents for the kids.
