What Impact Looks Like
Our Journey
Founded in 2012, Eartheners was built on a simple belief: sustainable energy should create real value for the people who use it.
Today, we work across rooftop solar, healthcare energy systems, solar-powered livelihoods, and clean energy solutions for homes and local businesses.
What began with a single solar installation has grown into a journey spanning homes, healthcare facilities, businesses, and communities across the North East.
Over the years, we have celebrated milestones, navigated challenges, adapted to change, and continued moving forward. Through it all, our commitment to practical and meaningful clean energy solutions has remained unchanged.
This is the story of how Eartheners got here.
2012 – 2013
The Beginning

The Eartheners journey began in late 2012 with a simple idea – to build a sustainable energy enterprise for Manipur.
Our early years were shaped by the support of the SELCO Incubation Centre, Bengaluru, whose mentorship helped us navigate everything from technology and project execution to partnerships and financing.
After months of field visits, community interactions, and planning, Mangaal Sustainable Solutions Private Limited was incorporated on 22 January 2013.
Soon after, we completed our first solar home lighting installation at Heirok.

Later that year, we signed an MoU with Manipur Rural Bank to enable financing for solar systems – an important milestone that helped make clean energy more accessible to households across Manipur.
2014 – 2015
Looking Beyond Lighting
As our work grew, so did our ambitions.
In 2014, we began exploring solar-powered livelihood solutions through a pilot solar sewing machine project.

The following year, we completed our first international assignment – a 3 kW off-grid solar power plant for a GeneXpert tuberculosis diagnostic facility in Yangon, Myanmar.
2015 also saw the opening of our Churachandpur office and the beginning of our first NGO partnership with Rural Women Upliftment Society (RWUS), Churachandpur.

Together, these milestones expanded both our reach and our understanding of how renewable energy could support livelihoods, healthcare, and community development.
2019 – 2019
The Rooftop Solar Years
By 2016, we had established ourselves in the solar sector, though the challenges of operating across remote geographies and maintaining dispersed installations remained significant.
A major turning point came when we were empanelled under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s rooftop solar programme and later under MANIREDA’s state initiatives.

These opportunities enabled us to begin installing grid-connected rooftop solar systems across Manipur.
What started as a new area of work soon became one of the core pillars of the organisation and continues to be a major focus today.
2020 – 2021
Through the Pandemic
Like many organisations, we faced significant disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Projects slowed, travel became difficult, and uncertainty became part of daily operations. Yet reliable energy remained critical, especially for homes and healthcare facilities.

Through restrictions, safety protocols, and logistical challenges, our team continued working wherever possible.
The pandemic years tested our resilience and reinforced our belief that access to dependable energy becomes even more important during times of crisis.
2021 – 2022
Beyond Manipur
In December 2021, we completed our first project outside Manipur, supporting healthcare facilities in Mon District, Nagaland under SELCO Foundation’s Energy for Health programme.

This marked the beginning of our expansion across the North East.
Over the following years, we implemented projects across Meghalaya and Assam, helping deliver solar energy solutions to healthcare facilities in remote and underserved communities.
The experience demonstrated that the knowledge and capabilities built in Manipur could create impact far beyond the state’s borders.
2023 – 2025
Holding On
The conflict that began in Manipur in May 2023 brought some of the most difficult years in our history.
Operations were disrupted, travel became challenging, and we eventually had to close our Churachandpur office – a decision that carried both practical and emotional weight.
Yet we continued moving forward.

Projects in Meghalaya and Assam helped sustain our operations and team, allowing us to continue serving communities even during a period of immense uncertainty.
These years reminded us that resilience is not just about growth. Sometimes, it is simply about staying the course.
2026
Renewed and Rebuilding
Thirteen years after our journey began, Eartheners enters 2026 with renewed energy and purpose.

This year, we crossed two important milestones: our 100th grid-connected rooftop solar installation in Manipur and over 500 healthcare facilities supported through our solar energy work across the North East.

We have also renewed our focus on solar-powered livelihoods while continuing to expand rooftop solar, healthcare energy systems, solar water heating solutions, and projects under PM Surya Ghar.
Our journey has never been easy, but it has always been driven by the dedication of our team and the communities we serve.
The mission remains unchanged: making sustainable energy accessible, practical, and meaningful.
And so, the journey continues.
