Healthcare delivery depends on many factors — trained professionals, equipment, medicines and infrastructure. Yet one of the most fundamental requirements is often overlooked: reliable electricity.

Across Northeast India, healthcare facilities continue to face power interruptions, voltage fluctuations and prolonged outages that can affect essential services. From vaccine storage and laboratory diagnostics to maternal healthcare and emergency response, dependable electricity is critical to ensuring uninterrupted patient care.

Under SELCO Foundation's Energy for Health (E4H) initiative, healthcare facilities across the region have been equipped with decentralised solar energy systems designed to provide reliable and sustainable power. The programme is funded and led by SELCO Foundation. As one of its implementation partners, Eartheners has supported the deployment, commissioning and maintenance of these systems across assigned healthcare facilities in Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and Meghalaya.

The Energy for Health initiative recognises a simple but powerful reality: healthcare outcomes improve when healthcare facilities have dependable access to energy.

Solar-powered systems installed under the programme help facilities operate critical equipment even during grid outages, reducing dependence on diesel generators and enabling healthcare workers to focus on delivering care rather than managing power disruptions.
